Favorite Sites

There are many sites out there that are so beneficial to teachers. Many are filled with lesson plan ideas and links for students to use for educational games, etc. Some of my favorites are:

http://www.mpsomaha.org/reagan/
This is our own school's website which links me to all of our district sites and tools. It also has many websites for the students to use to study and practice what they're learning in school.

http://edhelper.com/
I became a member this year to this website. It has a ton of lesson plan ideas, workbooks, printouts, etc. to use. I have found so many useful tools on this site.

http://pics4learning.com/
This website is full of images that students can use that are safe. Many apply to educational material.

Final Podcast

My podcast is all about Rocks and the Rock Cycle. Host Sarah Stone takes listeners through each type of rock giving more information and allowing them to see how each is formed. The pictures I used were found on rock websites. The first picture is pictures in a word. I used the magic wand tool to create this picture. The second picture has a boarder around it and a text effect on the bottom. The final picture is a collage of the molten rock and igneous rocks that it can turn into. There are other titles and transitions in the podcast as well.

Podcast Subscription

The podcast I subscribed to was Digital Storytelling. I liked this podcast because it is a great idea to do with students and would be a fun way to incorporate many things into the classroom. In the podcast, students are telling a story based on artwork that they created. The stories are very kid friendly and fun to listen to. It would be very fun to use digital storytelling with my students to practice creative writing, fluency, art, science and any other subject could easily be incorporated. Students love these fun projects, but making them meaningful to curriculum is also important.

Favorite Video

The video I chose was a Schoolhouse Rock video on Nouns. Grammar is something we teach every week and sometimes it would be nice to just shake things up a bit. I thought the video was cute and it's nice to know we can get these older useful videos on this website.

My technology paragraph :) Sorry this was left off my first post

Here is a little more about me and my connection that I didn't mention in my first post...

I have had some experience with technology because of growing up with the ability to use computers almost on a daily basis. I only stretch myself so far though. I do not really like to mess with new things and take the time to learn new technologies. Luckily members of my family are much better and I can ask for help :) I had always been a PC person before I started teaching. I enjoyed PC's and all they had to offer. When I got my job, I was issued a macbook. This was quite an adjustment for me, but I soon came to love my new computer. The mac has been fairly easy for me to learn and the programs have been very fun to use. In my classroom I use the projector to show some websites to the whole class or to watch an educational video. We also have an elmo to project items (textbooks, storybooks, and manipulatives) on. The students use the mobile lab for online testing or research. I'm not sure what version of office I am using because the district puts everything on the computers. All I know is it seems to work well.

Introduction

Hello!
My name is Sarah Elliott. I am a fourth grade teacher in the Millard Public School District in Omaha, NE. I have been teaching for almost two years now. I have an undergraduate degree from Hastings College (2007) majoring in Elementary Education and Special Education. I have enjoyed teaching so far and look forward to many more years of improving my teaching technique and reaching children at their various levels of need.
My family consists of my mom, dad, two brothers, and sister-in-law. I am engaged and will be married in June. My plate is very full, but getting my masters degree will be beneficial for my career knowledge and my family. I wanted to complete my master's now so that when I get married and start a family, this step in my life will be well on it's way. I plan to always continue education, but I needed to start somewhere. PCS has been an excellent tool for me to receive the education I need fairly quickly and in a way that is less demanding on my busy schedule. I look forward to learning more about multimedia and stretching my horizons when it comes to technology.
